Could your Digestive symptoms be caused by Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO)?

Updated: Nov 10, 2023

A patient came to see me complaining of abdominal pain, severe bloating, erratic bowel movements and highly reactive to multiple foods. She was diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and was taking antidepressants and pain relief when needed.

Despite strictly following her doctor’s advice, her digestive problems were not improving, and not being able to live a normal life was starting to affect her mental health.

Using my Naturopathy and Biomedical backgrounds, I put on my “detective hat” to better ascertain what could be the ‘root cause of her health problem"

After a comprehensive health assessment, including physical examinations and reviewing pathology test results; I suspected this was a Small Intestine Bacterial Overgrowth, this was later confirmed by a Methane and Hydrogen Breath Test.

The treatment plan consisted of a herbal remedy to eradicate SIBO, key nutrients to restore the intestinal lining, a supportive diet to balance the gut environment and lifestyle recommendations to restore vitality and general wellbeing.

After three months of strict treatment, my patient was able to live a normal life.

Much of what this article illustrates is that symptoms can arise from different causes. If you are experiencing unresolved health issues and want to have a second opinion, leave a message at www.gracerivas.com
